Leeds United have reportedly identified Liverpool shot-stopper Caoimhin Kelleher as a target as they consider other options in goal. It's claimed that people around the club have started to lose faith in Illan Meslier, who was at fault for Brad Potts' opener for Preston North End on Saturday.

The French goalkeeper has been at the end of several high-profile errors this season, putting his position under threat. Caught Offside now reports that other options are under consideration, and Kelleher is thought to fit the profile the club are looking for, ahead of the January transfer window.

Speaking about Meslier, former Leeds star turned pundit David Norris said: "I think Meslier had started to look okay in recent games, but the people I’ve spoken to who follow Leeds more closely aren’t convinced any longer.

"[Daniel] Farke is likely to be considering other options now. He’s been too inconsistent and has cost the club points this season. It just doesn’t look as if they have the confidence in Meslier they once did."

Kelleher has been impressive for Liverpool during Alisson's absence due to injury. As he is set to come to the end of his contract next summer, the 26-year-old has made no secret of his desire to move on in order to be first-choice elsewhere.

Speaking on his future in October, Kelleher said: "I was quite clear [last summer] that I wanted to play first-team football, whether that was here or elsewhere. I wanted to be a No 1. That was my thought process – but it's always been my thought process because obviously I am a football player and, like every player, I want to play. I'm not going to enjoy myself or be happy sitting on the bench.

"When I was coming through the academy to work my way up, obviously when you first get into the No. 2 position you’re happy and it’s progress. I think with anything after a while, maybe after doing a few seasons of a similar thing, you want to keep pushing forward and keep going to the next level. I've played a lot of games now as well and shown my level. The next step for me is to be playing week in, week out and every week."

Kelleher saw a summer exit fail to materialise, while Nottingham Forest have had bids rejected for his services in the last two transfer windows after falling below Liverpool's asking price. The Reds, though, have already agreed a deal to sign Valencia's Giorgi Mamardashvili. Republic of Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrimsson has also already hinted that he wants to see Kelleher leave Liverpool in the New Year for regular game time.
