How Liverpool could line up with Arne Slot's 3 biggest transfer needs resolved
Liverpool was never likely to be busy in January having decided to be fairly quiet during the previous summer. But come the end of the season, there could be some big decisions required for Arne Slot and his sporting director, Richard Hughes.
While Liverpool's roster is nicely balanced and has quality in all areas, there are three departments where there are legitimate question marks. They are far from proving problematic so far this season, with the Reds leading the way in the Premier League and the Champions League, but it might be wise to address them later in the year.
Firstly, there is a left-back conundrum emerging. Slot has Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas, but the former has not had his best season and the latter has not been 100 percent convincing in terms of doing enough to prove he can be the number one.

As a result, Liverpool should be looking for an upgrade in that position in the summer. Milos Kerkez at Bournemouth has been mentioned plenty of times, while Rayan Ait-Nouri would be another strong candidate, both with experience playing in England.
But it is not as simple as just bringing someone else in. To free up space, Liverpool would need to move on one of its existing options, with Robertson still under contract for another season and Tsimikas having never shown a desire to move away. One would surely have to leave for another full-back to come in.
In midfield, Liverpool is slightly light in numbers. Ryan Gravenberch has played a lot this season — more than ever before — and while he has become a world-class number six, he needs some support.
That could come by signing another holding midfielder like Martin Zubimendi or by bringing in another versatile option, allowing either Alexis Mac Allister or Curtis Jones to drop deeper for periods when Gravenberch can't play. Either way, another quality player in that area would make sense, with Tyler Morton and potentially Wataru Endo moving on.
Endo is content at Liverpool at the moment even though he isn't playing much but he has not been used much by Slot for a reason. Adding someone who is trusted to play in the bigger games more often would be a sensible idea to help keep things fresh.
Finally, with questions remaining over Darwin Nunez's consistency and suitability and Diogo Jota's injury history, signing a new striker should be high up the priority list. Even if Mohamed Salah stays, there is room for a more prolific option down the middle for Liverpool, which is better able to do what Slot demands of his number nine than the existing options.
New contracts for Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are a must as well, otherwise signing a world-class player in their positions would become an urgent requirement too. But aside from that, there are already three obvious areas to target heading into a big summer.
