Liverpool has added Leroy Sane to its list of transfer targets, according to German journalist Christian Falk.

Falk claims that the Reds see Sane as a possible replacement for Mohamed Salah, who could yet leave Anfield when his current contract expires at the end of the season.

Liverpool and Salah are both seemingly intent on coming to an agreement over a renewal, but should that not end up happening, the Reds will need to replace their talisman. And former Manchester City winger Sane is said to be being viewed as a possible option due to his contract situation at Bayern Munich.

Like Salah, Sane is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, and he is said to appeal to Liverpool due to his prior experience of playing in the Premier League.

Sane spent four years at City, scoring 39 goals and registering 43 assists in 135 appearances for the club, and although he is not as prolific as Salah, he could represent excellent value on a free transfer.

Asked on the FC Bayern Insider Podcast whether it was true that Liverpool was interested in Sane, Falk said: “That’s true. Mohamed Salah, he really hasn’t missed a TV camera recently to complain that Liverpool haven’t offered him a new contract. Now Liverpool have responded via the press.

“I think that’s been leaked a bit. He was supposedly offered one year. Salah is said to have wanted three. Now the question is, can you agree on two or do you get someone else? And Leroy Sane has moved on to the list alongside Omar Marmoush, who they are also focusing on from the Bundesliga. With Leroy Sane, of course, they say he’s available on a free transfer.

“He has experience. He knows the Premier League. So that’s very attractive. And at Bayern, he’s a bit of a backwater at the moment. There have been no talks yet [over a new contract there]. There has been no offer.”
