Liverpool cruise to emphatic win over Manchester City
Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League after a comfortable win over Manchester City at Anfield.
Goals from Fabinho, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane put Liverpool in a commanding position, with Bernardo Silva’s late strike proving a mere consolation in the 3-1 win.
City looked particularly nervous defensively throughout the game and the home side punished them on the break early on to leave them in control for virtually the entirety of the match.
Jurgen Klopp makes four changes from the Champions League win over Genk. Andy Robertson returned at left-back, Jordan Henderson came into midfield and Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane were installed back up top.

Manchester City make six changes from their own midweek game, as Claudio Bravo came in for the injured Ederson, with three of the back four from the draw with Atalanta changed. John Stones and Fernandinho were selected at centre-back, with Kyle Walker and Angelino at fullback, while Rodri came into the midfield.
City started the brighter, but were soon on the back foot thanks to a wonderful strike from Fabinho. The ball fell to the Brazilian 25 yards from goal after Mane’s cross was cleared, he took one touch and then fired into the net.
It came moments after Manchester City had a penalty shout, with the ball looking like it struck Trent Alexander-Arnold on the arm, but nothing was given and Liverpool broke to get their opener.
And before they knew it, they were 2-0 down. A beautiful cross by Andy Robertson found Mo Salah arriving at the far post to guide a header past Bravo in the City goal. Pep Guardiola’s side had been probably the better and yet found themselves two goals down.
In a frenetic game, City still looked very dangerous going forward, but always liable to concede at the back, a fact epitomised by left-back Angelino. The Spaniard looked nervy when defending, but it was him that hit the woodwork with a slight deflection off Virgil van Dijk's knee.
Alexander-Arnold then set off on a direct run down the right. He charged forward and then into the City box before playing in Roberto Firmino, but the forward's tame effort was saved easily by Claudio Bravo.
Salah then went close with his own effort, but Bravo saved well to his right.

With a fantastic half under their belts, Liverpool wasted no time in adding to their lead come the second 45. Jordan Henderson had the ball in the right corner and delivered a brilliant ball to the far post. It found Mane arriving right on cue and his header put his side three to the good, with Bravo not equal to his effort.
Kevin de Bruyne looked City’s liveliest player, but any time he tried to get his shots off, they were swiftly blocked and charged down.
But as the half progressed Klopp’s team began to utterly dominate. The first 20 minutes of the second half they bossed the game, with the visitors failing to test Alisson at any point.
They came closest when de Bruyne fired a low cross in from the left to an unmarked Aguero, but the Argentine missed the ball completely, before he was promptly substituted to end a miserable afternoon for the striker.
With a little over 10 minutes to play, City eventually got on the scoresheet when Angelino’s cross was brought under by Bernardo Silva. The Portuguese midfielder took a touch to bring it under, before dispatching an effort in at the near post.
That goal seemed to unnerve the hosts. Sterling started causing Alexander-Arnold consistent problems and the fullback survived another handball shout, fairly it has to be said. Supported by Angelino overlapping, all of City’s attacking play came down the left. Yet another cross found Kyle Walker, but he headed over.
Guardiola’s side looked anxious from the off and never recovered from the early brace that put them behind.
