Liverpool defender fighting for future after Newcastle United transfer interest
Former Newcastle United transfer target Jarell Quansah is fighting for his future at Liverpool after short-lived speculation regarding a move to Tyneside over the summer.
The Reds defender, 21, has started just one league game this term and made his first Champions League starting XI of the campaign against Lille this week. Quansah was being mooted as a potential makeweight in a deal that would have seen Anthony Gordon return to Merseyside but a transfer failed to materialise with the Anfield outfit being unwilling to let him go.
Newcastle also held on to Gordon while he was away at Euro 2024, with Eddie Howe determined to keep the winger. Now, Quansah could be back on the market once again as he struggles to earn opportunities under Arne Slot.

“Every game is a learning process for myself,” Quansah told the Daily Mirror this week. “I am not getting too down if I make a mistake or two. I just know I need to learn. It is going to be a long career for myself hopefully.
“Try to keep level, don’t let the highs be too high and don’t get too low with the lows. Temperament is the most important thing for me or a young centre back. Learn off the players around me.”
He added: “I am not going to sit here and say it’s easy,” he said. “It is always tough. But it is all about how you prepare, putting yourself in the best mind-frame and physical condition. It is not easy when you are not in the team but you need to do everything you can for the team. Keep pushing.”
Newcastle are still on the hunt for a centre-back but are keeping their powder dry amid ongoing PSR concerns. The Magpies were in the mix for new Manchester City star Abdukodir Khusanov but missed out on the Uzbek international.
