Liverpool defender Joe Gomez unrecognizable as academy player alongside Hollywood star
A photo of Liverpool defender Joe Gomez along with Hollywood star Timothee Chalamet after a youth soccer tournament in England has re-emerged on social media.
The picture shows Gomez, who was an academy player with Charlton Athletic at the time, posing for the camera on one knee, with Chalamet flexing a similar pose next to him.
Chalamet played for a team called Manhattan Kickers FC — a soccer club in New York City — as a youngster, and the team flew to England to take part in a tournament which Charlton was also involved in.

It is not clear exactly when the photo was taken, but it was at some point between 2006 and 2008 judging by the kit Gomez is wearing in the snap.

Twenty-nine-year-old 'Dune' star Chalamet is one of the most recognizable actors in the film industry, and has been nominated for an Academy Award as well as four Golden Globe awards during his career.
Gomez, meanwhile, hasn't done too shabbily himself since going head to head with Chalamet on the soccer field, making his senior debut for Charlton in 2014 before joining Liverpool just a year later, where he has gone on to make 240 appearances.
The Champions League and Premier League-winning center-back, though, is currently out of action after sustaining a hamstring problem during Liverpool's final match of 2024.
Gomez pulled up in the first half of Liverpool's 5-0 win against West Ham, deepening Arne Slot's injury worries in defense, with Conor Bradley and Ibrahima Konate also missing in recent weeks.
“You saw today an injury of Joe Gomez," Slot said after the match. "If a player says he wants to stop, he has to be changed. In a sprint, then we all know it’s a hamstring and we all know it’s going take a while before he is back. I don’t know how long but he will be out for quite a bit. These situations can happen in a season.”
