Michael Owen has said that Harvey Elliott is a difference-maker at Liverpool after his memorable goal against Tottenham.

The 21-year-old scored the Reds’ fourth goal in a 4-1 win over Ange Postecoglou’s side at Anfield. He received the ball just outside of the penalty area, cut inside and arrowed a left-footed strike into the top corner much to the awe of the Anfield crowd.

The goal was Elliott’s third in the Premier League this season and his first since scoring against Luton back in February. It marked the youngster starting the last two Premier League games as he looks to make an impact on the first team.

Giving his reaction to the goal, Owen has hinted that Elliott should now be first choice for Liverpool under new manager Arne Slot, having impressed with his performances in the last couple of weeks.

“It was stunning, wasn’t it? Absolutely stunning,” Owen told Premier League Productions after Elliott’s goal. “It was one of those, as soon as he hits it. He knows that it’s going right into the top corner.

“A lovely strike. He still has a lot to do, dances past one challenge and then strikes it incredibly well.

“It was all about Harvey Elliott. Kop End. He will remember that for a long time and he has been playing particularly well of late. He can make a difference, can’t he?

“Some of these young players who come in. They are just going to be squad players for the rest of their time. Float in and out of the team.

“However, when he comes on or starts, he makes an impact. Scores goals and provides assists. He has done well during these past few weeks.”

Elliott has made a total of 51 appearances in all competitions this season but has been in and out of the starting line-up in the Premier League. The majority of the time he is used as a second-half substitute but will look to start his third game in a row in the league when Liverpool take on Aston Villa at Villa Park next Monday.
