Liverpool’s upcoming documentary series has been confirmed by studio A24 with a four-word message to fans.

The award-winning A24 are set to team up with Liverpool to develop a TV series focusing on the reign of legendary Reds manager Bill Shankly. The upcoming documentary was announced by Liverpool earlier this week, and their partnering studio have uploaded their own message to fans to confirm the show.

Liverpool posted that the series will be set on the 1960s era both within the football club and the city of Liverpool with the emergence of The Beatles and the cultural boom within the city. A24 gave a nod to Shankly in their post about the series, adding the caption: “You’ll never walk alone,” referencing the song that the club adopted during Shankly’s reign.

Shankly joined Liverpool in 1959 following success with Huddersfield Town and turned the club into a powerhouse in England again. The Scot took the Reds from the old Second Division to three league titles, two FA Cups and a UEFA Cup before retiring in 1974.

His impact paved the way for future Liverpool success, with his immediate successors Bob Paisley, who was assistant manager to Shankly, and former first-team coach Joe Fagan. The two continued the winning culture at the club, adding seven league titles and four European Cups in the following 10 seasons.

Liverpool confirmed that the series will be produced in association with Box To Box, the same studio behind the Netflix series Formula 1: Drive to Survive. The club added the filming locations will be in Liverpool and Anfield with Shankly’s granddaughter, Karen Gill, assisting with the historical accuracy in his story.

"I think it's a wonderful way to share the story of my grandad's time at LFC," said Gill. "Anybody who knows anything about the club knows what it meant to Bill Shankly.

"This is going to be a must-watch for all Liverpool fans and it's a privilege to have the chance now to showcase his story to the wider world. I'm looking forward to seeing how this project unfolds and being a part of it."

Award-winning playwright and screenwriter Jack Thorne, previously involved with Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Enola Holmes and Help is also attached to write the series. Thorne said: "I'm excited to be telling this incredible story and it's an honor to be working alongside A24 and Liverpool Football Club.

"Our goal is to focus not just on the club, but on the city itself - because, and this is one thing Shankly made sure, the club belongs to the city and the city belongs to the club. We have a chance with this show to celebrate both a magnificent football club and a magnificent city, whilst being honest about the struggles of the 1960s and 1970s in one of our industrial heartlands. We hope to honour the fans, the city, and the legacy of Liverpool FC in bringing its story to life."
