Liverpool dream defence after January transfer window closes with waiting game and £50m deal
Liverpool do not have long to go before the January transfer window closes. So far, the Reds have been among the quietest of the Premier League clubs when it comes to new signings, with no new arrivals being added to Arne Slot's squad.
There is still time for that to change, though, with Liverpool having until 11pm on Monday to complete their transfer business. Whether any new signings are made, though, remains to be seen, but one area of the squad has seen several rumours generate headlines.
Plenty of reports have claimed that Liverpool could strengthen their defence before the transfer window closes. Slot is already blessed with eight first-team options to choose from in the back four, notably two in each position.

Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah have all starred at centre-back this season. At right-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Conor Bradley have the backing of the head coach, and it's the same for Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas at left-back.
It has been left-back that has seen the majority of the speculation this window. Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks, but the Reds will apparently face competition from Manchester United for his signature.
Bournemouth are unlikely to want to sell one of their star players in the middle of what is shaping up to be a historic season for the club, although it has been suggested the Kerkez is valued at around £50million. However, if the Reds want Kerkez as their future left-back, and want to beat United to a deal, making a move in January may be necessary in a dream scenario.
Another defender to be linked with Liverpool in recent days is Jorrel Hato. The Ajax star has impressed with the Eredivisie giants this term and has been tipped for a bright future in the sport.
Hato was in attendance at Anfield on Saturday as Liverpool beat Ipswich Town in the Premier League. This fuelled speculation that the Reds were planning to make a move for the left-back before the window closes.
The 18-year-old has already confirmed that he is not expecting to leave Ajax before the transfer window closes. While a move in the next few days does not appear to be on the cards, it remains to be seen if Liverpool will look to bring Hato to Merseyside in the summer.
