Liverpool can 'easily' win transfer race for 19-goal forward as Michael Edwards 'interest' noted
Liverpool is being linked with a move for Union SG forward Mohamed Amoura. The Reds are all too familiar with his abilities after he faced them twice in the Europa League group stage earlier this season.
The 24-year-old did not leave too great an impression at Anfield in the Reds’ 2-0 win. However, when the Belgian side won the return 2-1 – in what was a dead rubber for Liverpool – Amoura scored the opening goal and assisted the winner.
Predominantly a center-forward, the Algerian has also played on the left and right of the attack too so would be a versatile addition to the Reds’ squad. While other teams are interested in signing Amoura, Liverpool reportedly has an edge.

That’s according to the German outlet Kicker, in a story translated by Sport Witness. The German outlet’s story notes that Bundesliga side Wolfsburg is also interested in Amoura, and has registered its intent in the hope of beating the competition that will exist for his signing. But it is said that Liverpool could 'easily' win if it was a race between the pair.
Wolfsburg is aware of ‘wealthy competition’ from England and Liverpool specifically, though it remains to be seen whether Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes make a move. The Germen outfit knows that there are other interested parties and that it would not be the favorite if up against the Reds, who are able to call upon greater financial power and a bigger fanbase. While not mentioned in the story, Champions League football is an additional lure that Liverpool can call upon too.
Amoura only joined Union SG from Swiss side FC Lugano last summer. The 12-cap Algeria international made two appearances at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year. He has scored 19 goals and provided five assists in 32 appearances at club level this season, at a rate of 1.01 goal contributions per 90 minutes.
He is under contract until 2027 and Union SG has the option for another year. It’s worth noting that Kicker’s story notes a move is 'all hypothetical at this point as nobody appears to have made the first move yet'. But it also states that 'if Liverpool involve themselves, it seems there is a feeling they can easily win any battle'.
Liverpool.com says: With so much change on the cards at Liverpool this summer, links to new players are sure to be plentiful. However, signing men with several years remaining on their contract has not been the Reds' style, and it is unlikely to become so now that Michael Edwards has returned to the club. It would not be a surprise to see interest in Amoura as he already looks to have outgrown Belgian football. A move to Anfield feels unlikely this summer though.
