Liverpool training was cancelled on Thursday after the squad's journey home from London was disrupted by the wintry weather.

Arne Slot and his players travelled back from the capital shortly after the Reds' loss to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg, but icy fog at Liverpool John Lennon Airport forced the plane to land in Birmingham, from where ground travel was arranged for the remainder of the journey home.

Considering how late it was when the players finally arrived back in the North West in the not-so-early hours of Thursday morning, the decision was taken to cancel the day's session.

Slot's charges will return to the AXA Training Center on Friday to train ahead of Saturday's meeting with Accrington Stanley in the third round of the FA Cup.

Liverpool is searching for its first win of 2025 after going back-to-back games without a victory for the first time since Slot arrived as head coach.

The Reds, of course, will be strong favorites to get the better of their opponent this weekend; Accrinton Stanley is currently hovering precariously above the League Two relegation zone.

Despite watching his side lose for just the second time all season in all competitions, Slot was pleased with some of the things he saw from his players against Tottenham.

Slot said in his post-match press conference: "We knew when we came here that it would never be the same game as we played here one week ago or two weeks ago [when Liverpool recorded a 6-3 victory in the Premier League], but still I saw a lot of things the same.

"I think even in that game the ball possession was equal, but now I think we had 60 to 40 [per cent]. There's many good things to take for me, more than the [Manchester] United game, but the result was not as good as against United."
