Liverpool came through what could have been a difficult test on Sunday afternoon with the trip to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

Arne Slot's side could have found themselves in second place come kick off had Chelsea beaten Everton - but the Reds go into Christmas sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League table with a four point advantage and a game in hand.

The upcoming January transfer window could also present a strong opportunity to strengthen the playing squad after a quiet summer. So, the Liverpool Echo have picked out the biggest headlines and transfer rumours from over the weekend.

Liverpool given Ederson transfer verdict

Liverpool are among a number of Premier League clubs to be linked with Atalanta midfielder Ederson in recent years. The Brazil international joined the Serie A side in 2022 and has established himself as a key player with over 100 appearances across all competitions so far.

However, the 25-year-old will not be for sale in January as Brazilian outlet Trivela claims the player will remain at Atalanta for at least the remainder of this season. Ederson, reportedly valued at €80m, is rumoured to be on the radars of Liverpool, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Manchester City.

Omar Marmoush rumours addressed

Elsewhere, Mohamed Salah's Egypt teammate Omar Marmoush is a name that has emerged as a potential Liverpool target in recent weeks. The Eintracht Frankfurt forward is enjoying a spectacular season with 18 goals and 12 assists across all competitions so far.

The Athletic reported earlier this week that Frankfurt are resigned to losing Marmoush in the summer as his contract will tick down to two years. When he joined the Bundesliga club in 2023, he signed a four-year deal until the summer of 2027.

However, when addressing the Liverpool rumours specifically, journalist David Ornstein admitted he is not aware of any conversations between Liverpool and Marmoush, or Liverpool and Frankfurt, despite recent claims elsewhere in the media. He also noted that the German side will seek a fee in the region of €40-50m if they are to part ways with the attacker.
