Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian has expressed a desire to return to Spain as the clock ticks down on his Anfield career.

Adrian is out of contract this summer after five years with the Reds, during which he has claimed winners' medals in the Premier League, League Cup, FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup.

The 37-year-old, though, has made just two appearances in the last three seasons and hasn't featured in the top flight since February 2021.

And having previously spent six years at West Ham United - from whom he joined Liverpool on a free transfer - the keeper is now prepared to move back to La Liga, where he spent 15 years at hometown club Real Betis, during the summer.

“I would like to return to La Liga after 11 seasons in the Premier League," said Adrian, speaking to Mucho Deporte. "It would be the end of a cycle. I’m still ready to compete. I feel very good despite being 37.

“You know that goalkeepers, if you take good care of yourself, if you haven’t had any serious injuries lately and you’re fine, the daily training gives you that intensity that makes you compete.

“I think Adrian has a long time left and it’s true that I would like to return to La Liga. It has to be a nice, interesting project.”

Adrian added: “I haven’t sat down with Liverpool yet either. I don’t rule out that we could have a pending conversation, but it is true that we will be looking out of the corner of our eye to see what happens in La Liga."

Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip are also out of contract at the end of the season at Liverpool and at present are expected to leave in the summer.
