Liverpool are seemingly in the race to sign new RB Leipzig signing Xavi Simons in the summer. The Reds will have to wait until the end of the season to add new faces to their squad after deciding not to go into the market for reinforcements during the January transfer window.

Simons' future has been the subject of intense speculation ever since he starred for the Netherlands at the European Championships last summer.

The playmaker eventually returned to Leipzig on loan for the campaign, and it was confirmed last week that Simons has now signed a permanent deal with the Bundesliga club in a deal reportedly worth €50million (£41.7million).

Ever since the transfer window closed on Monday night, attention has shifted to what business Liverpool could do in the summer. Arne Slot has even been asked in recent days about the potential new signings that could arrive at Anfield at the end of the season.

Simons is one player who has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent months. It seems that the Reds may still have an interest in the Netherlands international.

According to Sport Bild reporter Christian Falk, via Caught Offside, Liverpool are "interested" in signing Simons but will face competition from Manchester United and Manchester City.

The report claims that there is every chance Simons could leave Leipzig in the summer to complete a permanent move to another club, just a few months after signing a contract with Leipzig.

It has been reported that Simons could be valued at around €80million (£66.7million) by Leipzig in the summer. The 21-year-old has scored five goals for Leipzig this term, with his new contract at the Bundesliga club understood to be running until the summer of 2027.
