Liverpool had two reasons for not appointing Ruben Amorim before he took Man Utd job
Liverpool reportedly decided against appointing Ruben Amorim as its new head coach due to concerns over whether supporters would get on board with his style of play.
Amorim earned himself a reputation as one of the best young coaches in Europe due to the success he achieved with Sporting Lisbon, and attracted the interest of Liverpool earlier this year when the shock news of Jurgen Klopp's departure was confirmed in January.
However, the Reds eventually went in a different direction, with Arne Slot's appointment confirmed in May. The Athletic reports that there were two main reasons that Liverpool opted against making a move for Amorim, with one of them being the concerns that fans might not enjoy his style of play; the second reason was the club's apprehension about how wedded Amorim was to a back-three system, which has already been widely reported.

The same report says that Liverpool was, contrastingly, impressed with how Slot's brand of football energized Feyenoord's working-class fanbase.
It is also claimed that Slot came out on top across all the different data metrics — including style of play, injury prevention and outperforming his resources — which were provided by Liverpool's director of research Will Spearman, while character references assembled by sporting director Richard Hughes on Slot were described as "glowing" and the Dutchman was also deemed to have the self-belief required to succeed a manager of Klopp's quality and standing.
It's early days but it appears as though the Reds made the right decision, with Slot's team currently topping both the Premier League and Champions League tables.
Amorim has enjoyed a decent start to life at United, and undoubtedly started at a lower base with the squad he inherited; we'll find out in the months and years ahead which club made the better appointment — but it doesn't look like much of a contest right now.
