Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has made a fast start to life in the new position of Red Bull's global head of soccer. On the latest stop of his global tour, he gave supporters of New York Red Bulls an almighty shock as some were tricked into believing he had been announced as the club's new manager.

Little over one year ago Klopp announced his Anfield exit to the surprise of many. In the final months he collected one more trophy in the form of the Carabao Cup, took Liverpool to third place in the Premier League and said a tearful farewell on the final day of the 2023/24 campaign, ready to take a much-needed break from the sport.

That break would last until the turn of the year, when the charismatic German switched from coaching to another form of leadership overseeing Red Bull's branch in the sport. As their global head of soccer he does not outright coach one team, but is there to offer support and guidance to the company's multi-club network.

Seemingly making his way across the globe to visit associated clubs, the former Reds boss was greeted in a snowy United States by NY Red Bulls. They made a post on social media, and fans truly went into meltdown as they got the wrong end of the stick.

The club's post read: 'Willkommen @kloppo,' with the former Liverpool boss seen holding up the club's jersey to the camera. One fan commented: "NAH," whilst another questioned: "Sorry, WHAT???" These kinds of comments seemed to emerge in a recurring theme.

"New coach?!?!" replied another Instagram user who thought the MLS franchise had hit the jackpot, another wrote: "Never thought I'd see this day in my life."

One other fan added: "Jurgen to rbny??" But other fans quickly clarified the situation. "He not the coach guys chill," one wrote. Another added Klopp's new job title in order to clear things up, as they posted: "Head of Global Football."

In his first stops after taking his first post-Liverpool job, Klopp attended Paris FC and RB Leipzig matches on back-to-back days. He then took part in his first press conference at the company's Austrian headquarters.

The 57-year-old explained: "I always said I loved what I do but the moment when I felt I couldn't do the job anymore that was it. It was the same at Mainz, Dortmund and Liverpool. I am brutally honest with myself.

"It was not only energy. After more than 1,000 games on the sideline, thousands of press conferences I didn't want to do it anymore. I didn't want to stop working either, I just wanted to do something different and a new start, and this opportunity gives that.

"I heard things but I didn't have any plans in this direction. I was focused on being a manager. I wanted to be the best version of myself in that role. When you are in the job I was in for so long, it is super intense.

"Game after game, you keep a specific level and I wasn't completely happy with that. I wanted to learn new things and when I heard about this role, I knew I would do that."

Following the press conference last month Klopp has made his first-ever visit to Brazil to see Red Bull Bragantino, then made his latest stop in New York.
