As we move past the halfway point of January, the ongoing scrutiny of Liverpool's transfer activities - or lack of them - has intensified. With no additions made to Arne Slot's squad so far in the winter transfer window, the situation has caused anxiety among some Liverpool fans, in our comments section, as their rivals prepare for potential signings.

The Reds are sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League and reaffirmed a six point cushion after beating Brentford 2-0 on Saturday thanks to two late Darwin Nunez goals. But some supporters are becoming increasingly nervous as many of their main competitors seem ready to start spending big before the mid-season moving deadline on Monday, February 3. In terms of completed transfers, things remain relatively quiet.

Tottenham Hotspur have signed backup goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, Aston Villa have snapped up Donyell Malen, Brighton have acquired Diego Gomez from Inter Miami, while strugglers Ipswich Town, Leicester City and Wolves have each made a signing.

The comments from worried fans reveal a range of views on Liverpool's transfer strategy and the role of sporting director Richard Hughes.

One reader, Liffan thinks: "I do not think that it is an emergency to buy someone in at the moment in January, I am more of the idea to start to give regular minutes to the youngsters - Danns. Elliot, and Chiesa, so on. First to help them have some experience within the Premier League games and second to see what they can really produce. So, by the summer transfer window the full strength and capabilities of all the team players will be known and the right decisions about where to be strengthened will be much easier to be taken and try to buy accordingly to fill the gap where needed."

Taffy529 adds: "FSG did to Klopp what they are doing to Hughes, only giving them limited budgets to work with. If FSG are only prepared to offer Salah, VVD and Trent certain amounts of money to extend their contracts and Hughes isn't allowed any wiggle room, then any negotiations could be Null and void anyway. FSG put the three players and their own Sporting director in a no win situation, for the three players it's a take it or leave it only offer, if the players don't accept FSG's offer then it's 3 high paid players off the FSG payroll at the end of the season."

Lovemedo controversially says: "Some fans may disagree, but LFC would benefit if FSG sold the Club to Elon Musk. FSG's extra prudence has limited progress, with just one PL and one CL in 15 years—a record more reflective of Klopp's brilliance than their investment. With slightly more backing, we might have won two more PL and CL titles in the past six years."

Fidelis Fautor believes: "Hughes first and biggest priority needs to be getting Mo, Virgil and TAA on new deals. How this has not happened yet is beyond me. Liverpool are not usually that busy in January, and most of the top options out there have already indicated that they won't move in January anyway. For me, I am less concerned about new signings and much more worried about keeping Mo, Virgil and Trent."

Herrjager says: "It takes money to make money. Not buying at least an experienced centre back in this window is a HUGE, unconscionable gamble. VVD only has so much in the tank. An injury to him has high potential to derail capturing any or all of the 4 pieces of silverware. Konate is injury prone, Gomez is 3 weeks away and Quansah is still not "burnished". Endo is a break-glass option and using Gravenberch is a situational tweak."

Winstonsmith22 comments: "With the ever increasing concerns of LFC fans regarding the 3 contracts of Trent. VVD and Salah. Hughes has been conspicuous by his absence and silence. The concern is that without the strong influence of Klopp and his skill in spotting talented players then Hughes, Edwards and Ward could royally make a real mess in next summer's transfer window. Hughes appears out of his depth in his LFC role."

Dragon14 thinks: "Liverpool are not serious in winning the Premier League title as can be seen on their inactivity in the transfer market. Liverpool should not have waisted their time and effort to keep VVD, TAA and Mo Salah and either concentrated on letting them go and bring in fresh, super fit and better players in their positions. Which is available if they play their cards right. Unfortunately, I am afraid we will even drop more points and Arsenal may steal the show."

Darkknight1 believes: "Well, it looks like Federico Chiesa will replace Salah next season. And Slot has high hopes that Jones and Nunez will carry the team next season. It looks like Liverpool just might win at least one trophy this season, with Salah being involved in 75% of the goals scored. As for next season, Edward, Ward and Hughes will be hit with reality as the fans rebel against them and the FSG."
