Liverpool legend issues blunt contract message amid Arne Slot praise
Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has issued a blunt message to Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold amid continued uncertainty surrounding their futures. All three players are set to be out of contract at the end of the season and it remains to be seen if agreements over extensions will be agreed.
Now that the January transfer window is open, Salah, Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold are all able to talk to clubs outside England over pre-contract agreements as free agents this summer. Liverpool remain in talks with the trio's representatives, with speculation intensifying over the possibility that they may leave Anfield at the end of the season.
Alexander-Arnold has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in recent months. The rumours have ramped up over the last couple of weeks, with Arne Slot regularly being asked about the right-back's future in press conferences.

Salah has also spoken about his future at Liverpool in recent interviews, hinting that an agreement over a new contract is not close to being reached. Now Thompson, who made 477 appearances for the Reds and won 15 major trophies along the way, has sent a message to Salah, Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold about the possibility of leaving Liverpool.
"I thought Arne [Slot], on their performances, spoke absolutely brilliantly," Thompson told talkSPORT when asked if uncertainty over Salah, Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk's futures at Anfield could affect their form.
"It's not affected them this last six months so I don't know why it would do.
"Yes, it is worrying for all of us Liverpool fans, but it will be their loss if they move on. Liverpool is bigger than any of these three players, and we will find a way.
"I hope they all decide to stay. Yes, the rumours are flying around and getting bigger."
Thompson added: "So you just get on with it, you can only do what you do as a football club.
"We've managed it exceptionally well, particularly Arne Slot and the staff."
