Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler eyeing surprise job after repeated pleas for chance in management
Former Liverpool forward Robbie Fowler is in the frame for the manager's job at Bolton Wanderers. The Trotters are on the hunt for a new manager after sacking Evatt on Wednesday morning.
The 43-year-old's departure comes with the club ninth in the table, three points outside the play-off places, but on a run of just two wins in nine Sky Bet League One games. Evatt joined Wanderers in July 2020 and guided the club to automatic promotion from League Two in his first season.
And as Wanderers hunt for a new boss, the Mirror is reporting that Fowler has submitted his name for consideration for the vacant role at the Toughsheet Community Stadium. The report goes on to claim that Fowler, who has previously managed in Thailand, India, Australia and Saudi Arabia, is motivated and ambitious to prove that he can forge a managerial career to emulate his playing days.

Former Stoke City boss Steven Schumacher, Rotherham's Steve Evans and ex-Bolton manager Sam Allardyce have also been linked with the vacancy. Fowler has previously said it is 'absolutely ridiculous' that he has been told he is not experienced enough as a manager in England to be considered for roles.
Speaking to BettingOdds.com back in 2023, he said: "Hopefully, it is. In this game we’re in, I don’t think you ever really know what’s around the corner: that could be being sacked or getting the next job. Once you are actually on the managerial merry-go-round it’s a little bit easier!
"What I have been told so far, and I think it’s absolutely ridiculous, is that I’m not really experienced in this country. I can’t understand that. I have managed in three different countries, so you’re learning daily about different teams, cultures, and methods. It’s not as though I’m new to it. I have every single coaching badge: the highest Pro License you can have.
"I’m currently doing an LMA diploma, which is level with the Pro License. I think I’ve just got to show people that I’m dedicated to my passion, which is football. I’ve just got to wait. I’ll keep looking, but in all honesty, it’s a bit frustrating, so if I need to go overseas again, then I’ll do that because I feel as though I’ve got a lot to give."
