Diogo Jota misses Liverpool’s trip to Brentford as Arne Slot makes one change from the team that drew 1-1 with Nottingham Forest on Tuesday. Jota’s contribution from the bench rescued a point at the City Ground but Slot confirmed in his Friday press conference that the Portugal international had suffered a setback after his 25-minute cameo and was a fitness doubt for today’s visit to the G-Tech Community Stadium.

The former Wolves star has not been included in the match-day squad and his last start in the Premier League came back on October 20 when he went off injured in the first half of the 2-1 victory against Chelsea.

Kostas Tsimikas replaces Andy Robertson at left-back with the Greek international preferred over the Scotland captain after his own contribution from the bench at Forest. Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Trent Alexander-Arnold complete the back four. It was Tsimikas whose corner was nodded home by Jota after 22 seconds of their introduction at Forest and the left-back’s performance is rewarded with a start against Thomas Frank’s side this afternoon.

Darwin Nunez returns to the squad after he sat out the game earlier this week through suspension but the Uruguay striker is left in reserve on the substitutes’ bench, with Luis Diaz once more leading the line. Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo both start and there’s a spot for Federico Chiesa on the nine-man bench in west London.

In midfield, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai continue, while Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Wataru Endo wait in the wings on the bench.

Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Diaz. Subs: Kelleher, Quansah, Bradley, Nunez, Chiesa, Elliott, Endo, Jones, Robertson.
