A 10-point advantage at the top of the Premier League table is within Liverpool's grasp on Wednesday night. They just need to beat Aston Villa to get there.

The Reds travel to Villa Park on the back of a previous week of mixed fortunes. Disappointing results against Plymouth Argyle and Everton were followed by a win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, although Anfield was a hotbed of nerves during the 2-1 success.

Villa have it in them to be challenging opponents, although Unai Emery's side have struggled for consistency in the Premier League this season and sit ninth in the table. They also have a number of injury issues to contend with ahead of the game.

Ian Doyle, Paul Gorst and Theo Squires have all picked their respective XIs for the match tonight below.

Having spent the last two months being behind Arsenal - in terms of Premier League games played, at least - Liverpool now have a chance to go ahead.

And they will want to make the most of it at Aston Villa and claim a 10-point advantage at the summit.

What, then, is Reds boss Arne Slot to do?

There should be changes. Not in goal, though, as that's Alisson Becker. Ibrahima Konate and skipper Virgil van Dijk continue at centre-back, but I'd change the two full-backs, meaning Kostas Tsimikas on the left of the defence and Conor Bradley on the right.

There's also rotation in midfield with Ryan Gravenberch having a rest. Curtis Jones can replace the Dutchman, with Alexis Mac Allister the other deeper midfielder. Dominik Szoboszlai stays as the number 10.

Up top, though, it remains Mohamed Salah on the right, Luis Diaz on the left and Diogo Jota down the middle.

My team (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Jones, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz; Jota

Arne Slot insists his players aren't feeling the effects of a long old season so far and they have the chance to prove that at Villa Park tonight. Victory sends them a massive 10 clear of Arsenal before the Gunners' visit from West Ham United at the weekend.

The major issue for the Liverpool boss is what to do over his centre forward position. Diogo Jota appears the best fit but he hasn't played much football over the last four months and has about 200 Premier League minutes under his belt since October 20.

Jota still starts for me tonight with Darwin Nunez waiting in the wings if needed off the bench. Luis Diaz continues on the left in the absence of Cody Gakpo, whose return hopefully comes this weekend at the Etihad.

It's a first Premier League start of the season for Wataru Endo, who comes in for Alexis Mac Allister. The Argentina international can rest up ahead of Manchester City on Sunday. Ryan Gravenberch keeps his place and Curtis Jones comes in for Dominik Szoboszlai, whose boundless energy and pressing ability will be needed in spades for City.

Kostas Tsimikas comes back in for Andy Robertson at left-back as Trent Alexander-Arnold starts on the opposite side once more. Virgil van Dijk is partnered by Ibrahima Konate, despite Jarell Quansah's excellent second half against Wolves.

My team (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Gravenberch, Endo; Salah, Jones, Diaz; Jota

Theo Squires

It’s a huge week for Liverpool as they travel to Aston Villa and Man City back-to-back before hosting Newcastle United. With the trip to Villa Park handing second-placed Aston Villa a game-in-hand, it’s vital the Reds extend their lead at the top of the table to 10 points.

Cody Gakpo’s ongoing absence is a blow, but it means Luis Diaz gets another start in his favoured left-wing position after impressing against Wolves. Diogo Jota just about holds onto his starting berth ahead of Darwin Nunez.

Curtis Jones comes back into midfield following his return from suspension and can start at number 10 in place of Dominik Szoboslai. I’d also rest Ryan Gravenberch with one eye on Man City, with Wataru Endo handed a first Premier League start of the season as a result.

Meanwhile, Ibrahima Konate keeps his place at centre-back having avoided a red card against Wolves, while Andy Robertson continues to see off the challenge of Kostas Tsimikas at left-back.

My team (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Endo, Mac Allister, Salah, Jones, Diaz; Jota
