Arne Slot will be hoping to avoid being on the receiving end of an FA Cup shock when Liverpool visit Championship strugglers Plymouth Argyle in the fourth round on Sunday afternoon. The Reds go into the game having won through to the League Cup final with a blistering 4-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-final second leg at Anfield on Thursday.

Liverpool are expected to make wholesale changes with a number of players likely to be handed a rare start during a busy February period.

And here the ECHO writers consider what Slot may do in terms of team selection for the clash.

With Arne Slot expected to ring the changes for this one at Plymouth Argyle, I’m half tempted to bring my boots and shin pads for a spot on the bench!

With that Merseyside derby to come next week - and the chance to go nine points clear in the Premier League - this game serves as something of a circuit breaker for the senior side ahead of the final trip to Goodison Park, which will no doubt be a historic evening.

Caoimhin Kelleher keeps his place and with Trent Alexander-Arnold unfit, there is little choice but to name Conor Bradley at right-back because I want Joe Gomez at centre-half alongside Jarell Quansah. Kostas Tsimikas is named on the left.

In midfield, Wataru Endo and James MCConnell can patrol and I am going to name Harvey Elliott in the No.10 position to pull the strings.

My front three sees Diogo Jota start through the middle for just the second time since October while Federico Chiesa gets another start in lieu of Mohamed Salah, who can rest up back on Merseyside. Rio Ngumoha gets the nod on the left-hand side with Darwin Nunez waiting in the wings.

My team (4-2-3-1): Kelleher; Bradley, Gomez, Quansah, Tsimikas; Endo, McConnell; Chiesa, Elliott, Ngumoha; Jota.

The FA Cup remains the world's greatest domestic club knockout competition. And while a League Cup final isn't to be sniffed at, the chance of another appearance at Wembley should be a big lure for Liverpool.

Nevertheless, changes are necessary. And a lot of them. What, then, is Reds boss Arne Slot to do?

Caoimhin Kelleher can stay in goal from the midweek beating of Tottenham, and Conor Bradley can crack on at right-back. The rest of the defence, though, is rotated with Jarell Quansah and Joe Gomez coming in at centre-back and Kostas Tsimikas at left-back.

It's all change in midfield, with Wataru Endo and James McConnell at the base of the engine room and Harvey Elliott operating as the number 10.

And up top, Federico Chiesa can have another go on the right, with Diogo Jota down the middle and Luis Diaz on the opposite flank. Alexis Mac Allister can be the first substitute.

My team (4-2-3-1): Kelleher; Bradley, Quansah, Gomez, Tsimikas; Endo, McConnell; Chiesa, Elliott, Diaz; Jota.

Don't be kidded by all the cliches, the FA Cup remains the least of Liverpool's priorities this season. With one Wembley final already in the bag, the Champions League now entering the business end of the competition and a Premier League title to be won, Liverpool have to manage their resources carefully.

That being said, no team should ever turn their nose up at silverware, and Liverpool will be able to put out a side that can overcome the Championship's bottom club, Plymouth.

Caoimhin Kelleher will start his second consecutive match in goal, with Conor Bradley, Jarell Quansah, Joe Gomez and Kostas Tsimikas the back four.

In midfield, Wataru Endo can be joined by James McConnell and Harvey Elliott, and then it's Federico Chiesa and Luis Diaz either side of Diogo Jota. The latter two, though, can have their minutes managed rather carefully to ensure they don't pick up any unwanted knocks.

My team (4-2-3-1): Kelleher; Bradley, Quansah, Gomez, Tsimikas; Endo, McConnell; Chiesa, Elliott, Diaz; Jota.
