Cody Gakpo has failed in his attempt to be available for Liverpool’s blockbusting Champions League showdown at Paris Saint-Germain. The Holland international suffered a recurrence of an ankle problem earlier this week and while he travelled to France hasn’t even made the bench for the round of 16 first leg at the Parc des Princes tonight.

It means Luis Diaz will continue on the left flank with Diogo Jota preferred to Darwin Nunez to lead the line. Mohamed Salah is on the right wing.

Andy Robertson has been chosen ahead of Kostas Tsimikas at left-back with Dominik Szoboszlai the number 10 and Curtis Jones on the bench.

Otherwise it is the team many would have anticipated with Arne Slot going as strong as possible for the PSG match. Alisson Becker is in goal, with Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back and skipper Virgil van Dijk alongside Ibrahima Konate at centre-back.

The midfield is completed with the regular double defensive pivot of Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister, with the line-up suggesting Slot will employ his usual 4-2-3-1 formation.

Young midfielder James McConnell and Trey Nyoni are both on a 11-strong substitutes’ bench.
