Liverpool continue their pursuit of the Premier League title on Saturday when they travel to Brentford. And it's fair to say the pressure has just been turned up a notch.

While there is no doubt the Reds have been the best and most consistent team in the country so far this season, it's also fair to say that they have dropped off a little, in terms of results, since the turn of the new year.

A Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg 1-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur means Arne Slot's side have it all to do in the return game at Anfield next month, while they have failed to win either of their last two league outings, though over the course of the season a 2-2 draw at home to bitter-rivals Manchester United and a 1-1 draw at surprise high-flyers Nottingham Forest may well represent good points.

However, that latter result has been seized upon by Arsenal, with their 2-1 win at home to Tottenham in the north London derby on Wednesday night meaning they have moved within four points of leaders Liverpool, who do have a game in hand.

The Reds would move back seven points clear of the Gunners with victory in the 3pm kick-off at the Gtech Community Stadium. That would then pile the pressure back on their injury-hit rivals ahead of their 5.30pm kick-off against Aston Villa at the Emirates.

The good news for Liverpool head coach Slot is that, unlike his opposite number Mikel Arteta, he does have a near fully-fit squad to choose from.

It is a squad that will be boosted on Saturday by the return of striker Darwin Nunez, who missed the match at Forest through suspension after totting up five yellow cards.

Whether the Uruguayan will go straight back into Slot's starting XI remains open to question, especially after Diogo Jota moved to the front of the recall queue after his instant, predatory equaliser at the City Ground.

However, the Portuguese is a major doubt for the trip to West London after missing training on Thursday.

The Reds, though, will have good options in attack, and in midfield, but there are questions about a defence that has kept just three clean sheets in their last 11 games in all competitions.

With Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley working their way back to full sharpness after lengthy injuries, and Andy Robertson struggling currently to regain the fantastic form he has shown across his decorated Liverpool career, the ongoing absence of the versatile Joe Gomez is being felt.

Gomez, as it stands, is the only player who will miss out against Brentford, but it now seems certain that Jota will join him on the sidelines.
