The wait continues for Liverpool to formally announce who will be the club's next manager.

Jurgen Klopp will depart from his role as Reds boss this summer and has just two more fixtures in charge this season. Speculation has been swirling ever since January as to who could replace Klopp in the Anfield dugout.

It's expected that Arne Slot will be the next Liverpool manager, with an agreement being reached with the Feyenoord boss last month. For now, though, no announcement has been made as to who will officially be Klopp's successor this summer.

Liverpool have just two more fixtures remaining this season before the Klopp era will officially come to an end. Here, the ECHO takes a look at what has been said about the future appointment of Liverpool's next manager in the media.

Cody Gakpo verdict

Cody Gakpo has become the latest Liverpool player to speak about the possibility of working under Arne Slot next season.

Sunday saw Gakpo scored in the Reds' 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. After the game, Gakpo was asked in an interview for his thoughts on Slot potentially becoming Liverpool's next manager.

Gakpo has experience of competing against Slot during his time in the Eredivisie with PSV Eindhoven. The Netherlands international admitted he is "very curious" about the possibility of working under Slot.

“To be honest, I have never worked with him,” Gakpo said in an interview with Viaplay. "I know, of course, that he is a very good coach who has shown it at AZ Alkmaar and at Feyenoord too.

“Of course, we played against [his Feyenoord] a few times, they were often difficult games. I am very curious and I think we are all very much looking forward to it.

“The focus at the moment is not there yet and is now on finishing the last two games well, for ourselves, for the club, for the coach, and then we will look further at the new coach.”

'Sincere' assessment by former teammate

Bram van Polen, a former teammate of Slot, has explained why the Feyenoord boss has earned the opportunity to manage Liverpool.

Van Polen was teammates alongside Slot at PEC Zwolle from 2009-13 during the former midfielder's playing career before he turned to management. Now Van Polan has outlined why Slot is held in such high regard at Feyenoord, and why that impact means he is deserving of the chance to take over from Klopp in the Anfield dugout.

"I like that and he deserves this too," Van Polen told ESPN.

"Arne has really created something beautiful here. He has got Feyenoord playing football again in a way that they have not often seen in De Kuip.

"I think Arne has gotten enough feathers up his a**, but in addition to being a very good trainer, he is also a very good person - and that is often even more important to me. He is a sincere and very pure person."
