Liverpool returns to Premier League action this weekend with the visit of Ipswich Town. Ahead of the game, we caught up with Florida-based Reds fan Morgan O'Sullivan.

Liverpool is flying in Europe and domestically at the moment. What are your hopes for the rest of the season?

At the start of the season, the title is always the priority. I think we have placed ourselves in an incredible position for that. The new format for the Champions League will be interesting and we should be in a position next Wednesday to plot our route to the final. To go straight into the last 16, with the second leg at Anfield guaranteed, is a massive bonus.

Could we go all the way? Performances so far would indicate that we could. Fixture congestion is always tough, but the stress of every game feeling like a cup final can be even harder. It would be great to see Arsenal and the rest drop more points, just to reduce the stress levels a little. I want the title. We are close in the league cup. We have the form for Europe. I want it all!

The January transfer window has been quiet. Does Liverpool need to bring anyone in?

At the start of the season I suggested a forward, a midfielder and a defender. Nothing has really changed in that regard, but I do not foresee anyone coming in. If we had planned on someone signing, it would have been done early in the window to ensure maximum time for bedding in the player. To wait this long suggests that we would either go for an opportunistic last minute deal, or making a signing out of desperation. I don’t think either of these will happen.

There is still no news on any of the big contracts. Are you getting worried yet?

We have been waiting a long time on the contracts. The first thing we heard was that the new manager and Richard Hughes would make the decision. Then we heard it would take time to come to judgment. Then we heard that it would take time to negotiate. We hear more and more that the captain and Mohamed Salah will stay, while Trent could potentially leave.

However, as much as we love and want to keep all three, I also think that most fans would trade them all if it guaranteed the title! While Trent is the most likely to go, the Spanish media are notorious for stories breaking. I also find it funny that we always get a breaking story or big news just before a big game. Now is the time for cool heads. I would just like it to be resolved one way or another as it has gone on for too long for all involved.

Diogo Jota injured again and Darwin Nunez appears to be a moments man rather than a consistent number nine. Should that position be a priority for the summer?

Liverpool have always had a top striker. Rush, Fowler, Owen, Torres, Suarez and so on. While Jota scores goals and Nunez can cause chaos against anyone, consistency of playing or performance can be a challenge for both. I’d like both to stay, but a striker to guarantee 25-30 goals a season like those names mentioned previously in addition to Salah — would be nice.

Anything else to mention?

If we were to determine that 85 points will win the league, Arsenal would need to earn 41 out of 48 points remaining. Liverpool would only need to earn 35 out of 51, and Manchester City would need to earn 47 out of 48 remaining. For Arsenal to only drop seven points in 16 games would be an incredible achievement. But for that to happen and for the title to go to London, it would mean Liverpool would need to lose five games and draw one, or draw 8 out of 17 games. Both scenarios are unlikely. The reality is that we are getting close to the 19/20 time period when the title will soon be within touching distance.
