Liverpool maintained their lead at the top of the Premier League after defeating Leicester City at Anfield on Boxing Day. Cody Gakpo, Curtis Jones and Mohamed Salah were on target as the Reds moved seven points clear thanks to their 3-1 win.

Arne Slot's side were forced to come from behind at a foggy Anfield when Jordan Ayew opened the scoring after just six minutes. The Foxes looked to frustrate Liverpool and succeeded in doing so with stern defending.

However, their rear-guard was broken on the stroke of half-time when the Dutchman cut inside swinging into the far corner. Four minutes after the restart, they were in front as Jones was on hand to poke home from close-range.

Salah got his customary Boxing Day goal with eight minutes remaining, feeding a left-footed effort into the bottom corner past Jakub Stolarczyk, who was making his Leicester debut. After two late goals from Fulham, Chelsea squandered the chance to reduce the deficit once again and Thursday's triumph for Liverpool bridged the gap further to reigning champions, Manchester City.

Arsenal can cut the deficit to six points, should they beat strugglers Ipswich Town on Friday night. However, Liverpool travel to West Ham United in fine form after a 13th Premier League win over the season.
