Liverpool saw their Premier League title hopes effectively ended in miserable fashion with rare defeat against neighbours Everton.

The Reds conceded in each half as they were beaten 2-0 at Goodison to remain three points leaders Arsenal and only a point ahead of Manchester City, who now have two games in hand.

And here's how the ECHO rated Jurgen Klopp's players after only a second Merseyside derby defeat in almost 14 years.

LIVE: Everton 2-0 Liverpool - full-time reaction from Klopp

Alisson Becker 7

Good save from Calvert-Lewin from close range and a little unfortunate to concede opener. Stopped McNeil effort second half and couldn’t do much about second.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 5

A few too many ambitious passes before the break but at least looked to get Liverpool going. Second half more of same but fell asleep for second goal. Subbed.

Ibrahima Konate 3

Nightmare first half for the Frenchman, who was bullied by Calvert-Lewin and got in the way to set up Everton opener. Instantly gave ball away at start of second half. Subbed.

Virgil van Dijk 6

Some good defensive headers and clearances as Everton won a succession of soft free-kicks first half. Spent a lot of second half pushing forward. Booked.

Andy Robertson 6

Willing runner down the left in both directions and one of Liverpool’s most energetic performers. Low effort kept out by Pickford before break and became attacking threat second half. Subbed.

Alexis Mac Allister 5

Playing as the number six, caught out occasionally defensively and grew frustrated at his inability to pick a pass but couldn’t be faulted for effort. Booked.

Dominik Szoboszlai 3

One forceful run into the box aside, the midfielder suffered a shocker of a first half and didn’t improve much after that. Subbed.

Curtis Jones 5

Couple of encouraging moments in possession and not afraid to put his boot in, but kept on running into trouble after break. Subbed.

Mohamed Salah 5

Created one chance for Nunez but otherwise too much on the periphery out wide, and more dangerous when drifting inside. Sent effort over towards interval and second half dipped in and out.

Darwin Nunez 4

Kept on showing for the ball but let down by some loose control and should have equalised with shot at Pickford. Became less effective longer game progressed.

Luis Diaz 7

Made a couple of strong runs at either end of first half and had chance saved by Pickford and became prominent after break, particularly with shot against inside of post. Booked.

Harvey Elliott (for Jones 63) 5

Unable to provide his customary energetic injection this time.

Wataru Endo (for Szonbszlai 63) 6

Began winning headers up against Calvert-Lewin.

Jarell Quansah (for Konate 63) 6

Far more composed than the man he replaced.

Joe Gomez (for Alexander-Arnold 84)

Interesting substitution.

Kostas Tsimikas (for Robertson 84)

Similarly intriguing replacement.
