Liverpool player ratings as Mohamed Salah excellent but one better in Tottenham win

Liverpool earned an impressive victory in Jurgen Klopp's penultimate home game in charge by beating Tottenham Hotspur.

Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, Cody Gakpo and Harvey Elliott all scored before two late consolations meant the Reds secured a 4-2 Premier League victory on Sunday afternoon.

And here's how the ECHO rated the Reds after an entertaining encounter.

AS IT HAPPENED: Liverpool vs Tottenham LIVE

Alisson Becker 7

Gathered a few crosses in an otherwise quiet opening half. Good stop to keep out Johnson and Richarlison second half and no chance for the Tottenham goals.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 7

Coped reasonably well with Johnson and regularly an attacking threat whether raiding down the right or pushing into midfield. Tricky moments up against Son second half, though. Booked.

Jarell Quansah 7

Few troubles defensively first half and used the ball well out of defence, whether at his feet or passing. Good tackle bailed out Endo second half and later necessary interventions.

Virgil van Dijk 6

Rarely forced out of first gear before break but did well to usher Son away on one Tottenham counter. Surprising lack of composure as the visitors pulled goals back in closing quarter.

Andy Robertson 8

Forward thrusts made difference in opening period but had to keep eye on Son and Porro down Tottenham right. Then popped up in right place to initiate and score second. Subbed.

Wataru Endo 6

Struggled with pace of game in the opening exchanges but grew in confidence after playing key part in opener. Subbed.

Harvey Elliott 9

Pressed strongly when possible and had one shot cleared off the line by Romero and among those to test Vicario before interval. Superb second half, creating goal for Gakpo and then smashing home an excellent fourth. Subbed.

Alexis Mac Allister 7

Largely on the periphery for the first half-hour but began to show signs of quality before the interval. Subbed.

Mohamed Salah 8

Lively from the first whistle, hit the bar and then finished well for the opener. His parried shot forced the second, and royally frightened his marker Emerson. Teed up Elliott for fourth goal and missed chance for another.

Cody Gakpo 8

Excellent both in terms of leading the line and bringing others into play, strong on the ball and provided inviting assist for opener, leading to the reward of heading in the third.

Luis Diaz 7

Trademark performance of endeavour down the left flank from the winger, who wowed with one acrobatic volley. Subbed.

Joe Gomez (for Robertson 65) 6

Won’t be happy Tottenham first goal came from his flank but excellent clearance denied another.

Stefan Bajcetic (for Endo 65) 6

First senior appearance since September and understandable signs of ring-rust.

Darwin Nunez (for Diaz 75) 5

Should have set up Gakpo for an easy fifth and then missed a sitter.

Ryan Gravenberch (for Mac Allister 75) 5

Struggled to get up to pace of the game.

Dominik Szoboszlai (for Elliott 83)

Put one shot wide.
