Caoimhin Kelleher 7
Dealt with one corner and a couple of crosses before break. Touched Hardie header on to post and no chance with penalty.
James McConnell 7
Started at right-back but soon pushed back into midfield and got stuck into tackles and forced save from Hazard with deflected shot. Returned to right-back second half but sent late chance wide.
Jarell Quansah 6
Won some headers but held on to the ball slightly too long on a couple of forward forays and long-distance distribution not always on point.
Joe Gomez
The skipper’s afternoon was brought to an end after barely 10 minutes.
Kostas Tsimikas 6
Good defending to see off Bundu after initial mistake first half but unable to make too much impression going forward.
Wataru Endo 7
Took over as captain and centre-back after Gomez exit and again quietly impressive in the position. Didn’t let anyone down.
Trey Nyoni 5
Early shot blocked then largely disappeared after picked up harsh booking. Bit more involved in second half. Subbed.
Federico Chiesa 4
Barely touched the ball opening quarter but became more involved and helped out defensively. Second half, though, was very disappointing.
Harvey Elliott 4
Attempted to get Liverpool going in the number 10 position but often found most of the Plymouth team facing him. Gave away penalty with handball and lacked quality in final pass.
Luis Diaz 4
Not given much protection by the referee and became a little dispirited as a consequence. Far too inconsistent involvement second half.
Diogo Jota 5
One run aside, may as well have not been there before the break and increased efforts were not given much reward. Saw injury-time shot from range repelled.
Isaac Mabaya (for Gomez 11) 6
Unexpected senior debut for the Academy right-back, who showed few signs of nerves. Booked and subbed.
Darwin Nunez (for Mabaya 58) 5
Ran around but didn’t impact the game very much until firing angled shot wide late on. Saw late header turned over.
Trent Kone-Doherty (for Nyoni 76) 6
The teenage winger wouldn’t have anticipated his senior bow would come in midfield.
