Liverpool saw their attempt to open up an eight-point lead at the Premier League summit thwarted by a 2-2 draw against struggling Manchester United on Sunday afternoon. The Reds fell behind shortly after half-time through Lisandro Martinez but fought back to lead with a Cody Gakpo strike and a Mohamed Salah penalty.

But Amad Diallo netted with 10 minutes remaining to earn United an unlikely point to leave Arne Slot's side once again six points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand.

The ECHO was at Anfield and here we run the rule over the Reds players.

Alisson Becker 6

Fine save to deny Hojlund just before half-time and used the ball well with his feet. Parried one effort second half but unable to keep out United goals.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 4

One fierce shot blocked but distribution inconsistent before break and lacked awareness on occasion. Among many to err for United opener but slight improvement after that. Booked and subbed.

Ibrahima Konate 6

Dominant in the air on his return and covered ground reassuringly well but started to understandably tire in the closing quarter and slow to close down Garnacho for United second.

Virgil van Dijk 8

Very aggressive in defending early on particularly up against Hojlund. Cleared well as United threatened before break and required to make some timely interceptions second half.

Andy Robertson 6

Worked hard down the left and sought to link with Gakpo and Diaz, but couldn’t quite get to Diallo soon enough for United second.

Ryan Gravenberch 7

Shot wide from range after trademark turn in midfield and began to find space towards half-time. Put under pressure at times second half but remained composed.

Alexis Mac Allister 8

Denied by good Onana save and found plenty of pockets with his passing and tenacious defensively. Fine pass set up Gakpo for opener, won the penalty and maintained good level throughout.

Mohamed Salah 7

Created chance for Mac Allister and drew booking from Dalot but otherwise subdued before break. More openings second half and tucked away penalty well.

Curtis Jones 6

Mixed bag first half, using the ball well but occasionally dwelling on it a bit too much. More of same second half. Subbed.

Cody Gakpo 7

Plenty of endeavour and close with one effort but another hounded out by the massed United ranks first half. Livelier after break and superb work to score leveller. Subbed.

Luis Diaz 6

Spent too much time on the left before the interval where he didn’t get much out of Mazraoui. Subbed.

Darwin Nunez (for Diaz 60) 6

Put himself about but not much chance to show quality. Booked.

Diogo Jota (for Jones 60) 6

Some sights of goal but blocked.

Harvey Elliott (for Gakpo 86)

Not much chance to make an impact.

Conor Bradley (for Alexander-Arnold 86)

Caused a few problems going forward.
