Liverpool have been made aware of the difficulty they may face when trying to sign Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez. Reports in recent weeks have claimed that the Reds have an interest in signing the Hungary international but may face competition from Manchester United.

Kerkez has starred at left-back for Bournemouth this season, starting all 20 Premier League matches under manager Andoni Iraola. The defender's form has seen his price tag reportedly rise to around £40million, with Liverpool mentioned in several articles as having an interest.

Andy Robertson is currently the starting left-back for Liverpool, with Kostas Tsimikas also getting regular game time under head coach Arne Slot. With Kerkez being linked with a move away from the Vitality Stadium, in particular to Liverpool, a fresh update has emerged about the 21-year-old's future.

According to The i Paper, Bournemouth are unlikely to allow Kerkez to leave the club during the January transfer window. The report claims that the Cherries believe Kerkez is one of most sought-after players in the Premier League, alongside his teammates Antoine Semenyo, Illia Zabarnyi and Dean Huijsen.

Liverpool are mentioned in the report as being 'admirers' of Kerkez. However, the report has stated that Bournemouth will not allow the left-back to leave the club before the transfer window closes on February 3.

It remains to be seen if Liverpool have plans to strengthen their squad during the current transfer window, in particular the defence. The Reds currently may have only two fit senior centre-backs in Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, with the latter on recently returning from injury.

Joe Gomez is recovering from a hamstring injury he suffered against Leicester City on Boxing Day. Jarell Quansah was withdrawn in the first half of the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night due to illness.
