Liverpool's Premier League meeting with Manchester United at Anfield will go ahead as planned. After initial talks took place between Liverpool City Council's GSA at 9am on Sunday, it was decided that further discussions would be undertaken at 12pm to make a decision on the 4.30pm kick-off at Anfield.

Merseyside was impacted by heavy snowfall throughout the early hours of Sunday morning and an amber weather warning was put in place by the Met Office as a result, effective from 6pm on Saturday evening through to midday on Sunday.

Gritters were dispatched around the city on Saturday to help offset the impacts of the weather across the roads, with the Council's official X account informing that the vehicles were on their third run by 8am on Sunday morning.

With supporters gearing up for their journeys from across the North West and beyond, it was officially confirmed the match would go ahead at 12pm on Sunday, with a statement from Liverpool FC confirming the decision:

"Today’s fixture against Manchester United will go ahead as planned. Two safety meetings were held earlier to assess the weather and travel conditions. We thank everyone involved in helping us to get this game on today. If you’re travelling to Anfield then please take extra care. We look forward to seeing you there."

On Sunday morning, Merseyrail told the ECHO that services had been suspended on the line between Rock Ferry and Ellesmere Port and Chester, with rail replacement buses operating, while there were no Avanti West Coast trains to and from Liverpool Lime Street until 12pm after what was described as an "incident" by National Rail.

The decision means Liverpool have avoided a second postponement in quick succession after the game against Everton was cancelled on December 7. The Reds' short trip across Stanley Park for the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park was called off on the morning of the game due to effects of Storm Darragh around the region. There has been no official confirmation as to when that fixture will be rearranged.

Liverpool have the chance to go eight points clear of second-place Arsenal after the Gunners were held to a 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday evening.
