Liverpool would be second-richest club in the world if Elon Musk buys Reds
Liverpool would become the soccer club with the second-wealthiest owner in the world if it was bought by Elon Musk, the richest person on the planet.
Only Newcastle United, which is owned by a consortium led by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), would have an ownership group with more money at their disposal than Musk.
Musk has a net worth of $415.5bn, according to Forbes; meanwhile last year, it was reported that the PIF's assets rose to almost $1trillion.

The 53-year-old Musk's net worth rocketed in 2024 following Donald Trump's victory in the United States presidential election, with Forbes reporting on November 22, 2024, that his net worth had risen by around $70billion since the election, which had been held 17 days earlier.

That huge rise was largely down to a 40 per cent surge in Tesla's share price following the election "as Wall Street bought into what should be a more friendly regulatory environment under Trump for Tesla," Forbes reported.
Musk, who contributed hundreds of millions of dollars to Trump's presidential campaign, is the largest individual shareholder in Tesla, owning an approximate 13 per cent stake in the electric car company.
News of Musk's interest in buying Liverpool emerged on Tuesday morning as the X owner's father, Errol Musk, told Times Radio about the family's links to the city. The older Musk was directly asked the question: “Does your son want to buy Liverpool Football Club?”
He responded: “I can't comment on that, they'll raise the price! Oh yes, [he has expressed a desire], but that doesn't mean he's buying it. He would like to yes, obviously. Anybody would want to — so would I! His grandmother was born in Liverpool, and we have relatives in Liverpool and we were fortunate to know quite a lot of the Beatles because they grew up with some of my family. So, we are attached to Liverpool you know."
Musk previously claimed he would never buy a sports club, but said in 2022 that if he were to buy one, he would look to purchase Manchester United.
