Manchester United are interested in Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez but are likely to face competition for the Hungarian international's signature.

The Manchester Evening News reported that the 21-year-old is a player of interest as they look to sign a left-sided player to replace Luke Shaw, who has suffered injury issues in the last 18 months, and Tyrell Malacia as the Dutch left-back could be sold this year. United rivals Liverpool have been heavily linked with the Hungarian international following struggles of their own in the left-back department.

On Monday, it was revealed that United had entered talks with Leece to sign left wing-back Patrick Dorgu. The 20-year-old is a versatile full-back, who can also play on the left, and while talks are ongoing, there is nothing finalised.

Dorgu was another full-back linked with a move to the Premier League with the Anfield club also linked. But they may have a hidden advantage in their supposed pursuit of the Bournemouth defender.

Kerkez was brought to the English top-flight from AZ Alkmaar and then-technical director Richard Hughes brokered the deal. Speaking at the time of his arrival on the South Coast, the then-19-year-old said: "We got in touch with Bournemouth, I feel the kind of respect that the club and the people showed us was a big part of me coming here. It was a few busy days but now, I'm here I'm really happy."

During his club interview, the left-back can be seen walking alongside the former Portsmouth and Scotland defender, Hughes. Last summer, his time at the Cherries came to and end as he swapped the south for the north west to join Liverpool to work with Michael Edwards - who was appointed as Fenway Sports Group's (Liverpool's owners) Head of Football.

Hughes has stated that he will be opportunistic in the transfer window, where Liverpool have been stringent in the past. He said: “It was difficult at first as we both had jobs to finish.

"But since then we’ve been in conversations daily on logistics, organisation, and of course preparing the transfer window. That’s something we’ll know more about as we go on.

"We’ll spend more time with the squad we’ve inherited—which is a very talented squad. We still need to improve, but we need to improve on the training pitch first and foremost. But with the window open we’ll always be opportunistic if we can.

"When major comps are on in the summer attention is there. After the flurry in June it will calm down now is my prediction. Then when August starts and the coaches have had more time opinions will be more set at clubs and then we’ll see a hurry."
