When Jorrel Hato was spotted at Anfield last month, the transfer rumour mill naturally burst into life. The defender later revealed he was in attendance to watch Liverpool take on Ipswich Town after being invited to the game by Ryan Gravenberch.

Now, though, it is being claimed that the Reds have been sending scouts to watch the 18-year-old in action. According to TBR Football, Liverpool have been sending scouts to watch Hato as they have an interest in him.

The report goes on to claim that Liverpool scouts were in attendance to watch Hato star for Ajax against Galatasaray in the Champions League and the Eredivisie win over rivals Feyenoord last week. It is also claimed that Chelsea have been monitoring the 18-year-old's progress throughout the campaign.

Hato has made 33 appearances for Ajax this season, scoring three goals and providing five assists from left-back. Addressing his visit to Anfield last month, he said: "I read it all.

"But I also know that not everything was right. For my development it's best that I stay at Ajax now. I was invited by Ryan Gravenberch.

"But I didn't speak to a director there. Liverpool played well and the atmosphere in the stadium was good, but there is no more to say.”

Speaking to the BBC last month, Arne Slot confirmed Liverpool will strengthen their squad in the summer after a quiet first two transfer windows as Reds head coach. He said: "Liverpool should always be competing for a league title, we should always be competing for the Champions League. I'm hoping I will be able to keep the club at that level.

"You don't think after 20 games we will have that many points and I wasn't expecting us to be top with the margin we have," he added.

"It's always nice to be up there, but nobody would have expected this. I'm the last person who would have expected [reigning champions Manchester] City to have such a bad run.

"I know people sometimes question this because they haven't seen us doing a lot in the transfer market in the summer and now in the winter as well. There's a reason for that - because we're happy with the squad.

"But I do know we're definitely working on strengthening in the summer. That would mean, in my opinion, that we will, for the upcoming years if the players keep working this hard, that we will be able to challenge for every trophy we are playing for.”
