SUNDERLAND-BOUND Jayden Danns is set to sign a new long-term contract at Liverpool - a sign of how highly the Premier League leaders rate the teenage striker.

Danns is on Wearside to put the finishing touches to his loan move having opted to join Sunderland instead of other Championship clubs, including Hull City.

The 19-year-old obviously won't be involved at the Riverside tonight against Middlesbrough but will be available to make his debut against Watford on Saturday.

Danns has made nine senior appearances for Liverpool and became the youngest player in the club's famous history to start a Champions League game when he got the nod for last week's trip to PSV Eindhoven.

And, according to the Athletic, Danns will sign a new and improved long term deal at Anfield before completing his Sunderland loan.

It's a first loan move for Danns and Liverpool are said to hope regular football will help the youngster make further progress in the coming months. Danns will compete with Wilson Isidor and Eliezer Mayenda and add crucial depth to Sunderland's forward line.

Sunderland have today been linked with Adam Armstrong but the Southampton striker - a boyhood Newcastle fan - has not been in the Black Cats' thinking this month.
