Liverpool are bidding to retain the Carabao Cup this season season, though an Anfield semi-final second leg vs Tottenham Hotspur poses a challenge.

Tottenham claimed victory in last month's first leg in London by way of a Lucas Bergvall goal, moments after the midfielder should have arguably been sent off and with the Reds playing with 10 men as Kostas Tsimikas received treatment for the challenge. But with that result set in stone, all Liverpool can do now is win by two clear goals on Thursday night.

To help the cause, Arne Slot is going to be able to call upon an almost entirely healthy squad. The head coach had been given one or two hinderances throughout January.

One was the setback for Diogo Jota, who scored an equaliser upon his return against Nottingham Forest only to go back on the sidelines after his short cameo. Curtis Jones provided another headache when he assisted against Lille in the Champions League then was forced off minutes afterwards.

Thankfully, both attacker and midfielder were deemed fit enough for the bench at Bournemouth last weekend, with the latter making a 30-minute return. Now Slot will want Jota to take his first steps if he can help overturn the aggregate deficit vs Spurs, and can also look forward to adding two players back into his plans too.

Reviewing the quiet winter transfer window, he commented: "We didn’t have many injuries, not long-term injuries, in the moment the window was open.

"At the moment there is not a reason to add something to the team unless you have a chance in the market. That's something we saw last time with the goalkeeper we brought in (Giorgi Mamardashvili) as we saw there was a chance in the market. For now, we are happy with the team we have."

And also confirming all players bar Trent Alexander-Arnold are available, that means both Joe Gomez and Federico Chiesa can provide another double boost for the semi-final.

Gomez has missed the last nine fixtures with a hamstring injury sustained against West Ham United on December 27. Chiesa completed his first 90 minutes of the season in last week's match at PSV Eindhoven so was given the weekend off to aid his recovery, now each seem ready to return and play their part in Thursday's big challenge if required.
