Liverpool looks set to appoint Arne Slot as its next manager, with the Dutchman leading the Reds into next season's Champions League. There has been no confirmation from Liverpool or Feyenoord but Slot has made no secret of his desire to take over at Anfield.

He will hope to improve on the fortunes of countryman Erik ten Hag at Manchester United. Ten Hag finds himself under increasing pressure with his side eighth in the Premier League with three matches to play. United was thrashed 4-0 by Crystal Palace on Monday night.

Ten Hag still has an FA Cup final to prepare for but speculation over his future at Old Trafford is unclear. Foot Mercato has reported that England boss Gareth Southgate is the man picked to take over next season.

Former Ajax striker Wim Kieft told De Telegraaf: "Everyone is rightly enthusiastic about him. That was also the case when Erik ten Hag left Ajax for Manchester United. However, Slot has a better vision than Ten Hag." Kieft then name-checked six players, who he claims have all 'undeniably improved' under the Dutchman at Feyenoord.

Lutsharel Geertruida

Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida dropped a hint over a move to Liverpool when he attended the recent draw with West Ham. And De Telegraaf claimed he is eager to join his boss at Anfield next season.

The 23-year-old came through the youth ranks at Feyenoord before making his debut in 2017. He has been a regular under Slot, playing in a number of positions, and is now part of the Netherlands set-up ahead of the Euros.

Dávid Hancko

Another Feyenoord player who has already been linked with Liverpool. Slovakian international Dávid Hancko was linked with the Reds last summer and again in January, with his agent confirming there was contact with the Reds.

That deal didn't materialize but Hancko told Aktuality that he is a big Liverpool fan. The 26-year-old, who can play at left-back or in central defense cost just $6.5m (£5.2m/€6m) when he arrived from Sparta Prague two years ago. He is likely to cost around $48m (£39m/€45m) this summer.

Mats Wieffer

Slot snapped up defensive midfielder Mats Wieffer from Excelsior in 2022 and the Dutchman hasn't looked back at Feyenoord. He was key to the title success a year ago and has made 42 appearances this term.

His boss suggested he could become the best player in the world if he continues on this upward trajectory, with HITC reporting that Slot could look to take him to Anfield this summer.

Quinten Timber

Kieft has been particularly impressed with the improvement of Quinten Timber, brother of Arsenal defender Jurrien. "Before Slot, HE was a dime a dozen football player. But he has now added specific qualities to his game. He has become much more dynamic, often gets into the opponent’s box and scores regularly," Kieft said.

The 22-year-old was signed by Slot from Utrecht for a reported $9.7m (£7.8m/€9m) and has scored seven times this season. He was rewarded with his first international call-up back in March.

Igor Paixão

Slot took a punt on Brazilian winger Igor Paixão in the summer of 2022 and it proved to be an inspired decision. He scored seven times in the title win last season and has kicked on again this term.

Paixão has found the net 11 times in all competitions, including the winning goal in the Dutch Cup final. He cost the club just $5.4m (£4.3m/€5m) when he arrived from Coritiba and is now worth considerably more.

Orkun Kökçü

Turkey international Orkun Kökçü is a real success story for Feyenoord, having joined the club's youth academy as a 14-year-old. He made his debut just three years later and would eventually be named captain by Slot in 2022.

Kökçü led Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title last season before being sold to Benfica in the summer. The midfielder cost a reported $32m (£26m/€30m), which was a club-record sale for Feyenoord and a transfer record for the Portuguese league.
