Arne Slot is eyeing a triumphant 2025 for Liverpool as it vies for supremacy in the Premier League and the Champions League, and aims to defend its League Cup title with a semi-final clash against Tottenham Hotspur on the horizon. With an eight-point lead at the pinnacle of English football, the Reds are tipped to clinch only their second title since 1990.

The January transfer window presents the last chance for managers to beef up their squads ahead of the grueling race to the season's end. Whether Slot and the Anfield hierarchy will seek to bolster their ranks in the upcoming market is yet to be seen, having only added Federico Chiesa to their roster during the summer and Giorgi Mamardashvili, who will arrive in the summer.

Martin Zubimendi was the talk of the town in the last window after the Real Sociedad midfielder snubbed a move to Anfield to remain in La Liga. Now, the main buzz around L4 revolves around the contract uncertainty that Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah currently face, with the threat of losing the trio to free agency at the end of the season looming large.

Following Sunday's 5-0 thrashing of West Ham United, Slot stated that he wasn't contemplating the upcoming opportunity in January. "There's nothing in the media yet about who we're going to bring in? No? And also not in my mind," he remarked. "I'm very happy with the squad we have, I said this six months ago and everybody was like 'is this guy crazy?'."

"But I think the players show the confidence the club and me had in them was all deserved. If you look at Jarell Quansah he hadn't played a lot until now, a few appearances. The way he played today shows how important it is that we keep working with these players, because we're going to need all of them at a certain moment."

But if the right player becomes available, Liverpool should go for it. Here's a look at the current squad numbers that are vacant...

Number 6: The iconic number six shirt at Liverpool, previously donned by Thiago Alcantara, has been left unclaimed since the Spaniard's contract concluded last summer. Traditionally a number associated with defenders, recent trends have seen it adopted more by midfielders or those playing just ahead of the backline.

With Ryan Gravenberch's stellar rise this season, he might want to relinquish his Ajax number. Meanwhile, Zubimendi remains a hot topic for a potential switch to Liverpool. Given Gravenberch's form, perhaps what's needed is someone to support rather than directly replace him.

Number 12: Joe Gomez was the last player to don the number 12 shirt, a number he held for seven years until 2022. The shirt has been worn by some Liverpool legends over the years, including Sami Hyypia, Robbie Fowler, Ronnie Whelan and Ian Rush, to name just a few.

Full-backs Antonee Robinson and Milos Kerkez have recently been linked with moves to provide competition for Andy Robertson, and they could potentially be in line to take on the number 12 shirt. The shirt has also been worn by goalkeepers in the past, notably Jerzy Dudek, so it might be an option for Mamardashvili.

Number 13: Adrian claimed the number 13 shirt as Liverpool's third-choice goalkeeper towards the end of his time on Merseyside. Football superstitions may deter some from taking on this squad number, considered unlucky by some. However, in the past, Adrian, Alisson, Alex Manninger and Scott Carson have all sported it.

Number 15: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was the most recent occupant of the number 15 shirt during his stint on Merseyside. The ex-Arsenal midfielder had a promising start to his Liverpool career, but it was unfortunately marred by injuries.

Number 23: Since Luis Diaz was handed the iconic number seven shirt, the number 23 jersey has been left vacant. Cody Gakpo has since joined to bolster the Reds' wide options, but that hasn't quelled rumors about potential moves for players like Anthony Gordon, Khivcha Kvaratskhelia and Omar Marmoush.

Marmoush, in particular, has been tipped as the 'next Mo Salah', sharing an international dressing room with the Liverpool legend who is facing contract uncertainty at Anfield. The Eintracht Frankfurt star has been shining in the Bundesliga as they push for Champions League qualification, with the 25-year-old netting 13 goals in 15 appearances and providing eight assists.

Other available squad numbers worth noting are 16, 22, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33.
