Liverpool stance, £50m bid, Alexander Isak consequence - Diogo Jota to Arsenal transfer verdict
Diogo Jota has been linked with a sensational move to Arsenal.
The 28-year-old has been at Liverpool since September 2020, joining from Wolves in a deal worth around £45million. Over the weekend, though, it was claimed Arne Slot is becoming frustrated with his injury record, with the Dutchman willing to let the forward leave in the summer.
Anfield Watch reports the Reds are considering allowing Jota to depart Merseyside in the summer with Arsenal keen on signing the frontman. While there is a reluctance to sell to a rival club, Jota is believed to be available for the 'right fee', the report claims. There are also said to be suitors from abroad keeping an eye on his situation.

It's also said that Arsenal were interested in Jota last summer and could come back in, with Mikel Arteta's side in need of a new forward. Benjamin Sesko, Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak have all been linked with a move to Emirates Stadium and football.london understands the Gunners are interested in strengthening the front line in the summer.
Jota is seen as the best finisher in the Liverpool squad but his injury record is a concern, with the Portugal international missing a number of games this season with muscle injuries. So, should Arsenal explore a deal to sign the former Porto man? football.london's writers have their say below!
Sam Truelove
Diogo Jota is exactly who Arsenal need but exactly who they don't need at the same time.
The frontman is versatile, a lethal finisher and would undoubtedly add quality to the Gunners attack. But his injury record is worrying and at the age of 28 you have to question how many decent years he has left in his career.
Benjamin Sesko is 21 years old, Alexander Isak is 25 and Viktor Gyokeres is 26. All would, I believe, offer more value and probably be more suitable than Jota. The Portuguese international is Premier League proven, however, but would probably cost at least £50million. You have to wonder if that money would be spent better elsewhere.
Arsenal must get their striker transfer right. It may be the difference of winning a trophy or not next season. I say avoid Jota and go for Sesko or Isak instead.

Jota feels like a better version of Leandro Trossard. He is a winger capable of playing on both sides with good feet and, in Jota's case, genuinely elite finishing. He doesn't solve too many issue though.
Really it is a striker they need and Jota, although he can play there, isn't an out-and-out No.9. He also has a sketchy enough injury history to make any deal a risk.
For a 28-year-old there is unlikely to be any re-sale value and a transfer is sure to cost around £50million due to Liverpool being a direct rival. Maybe if Trossard was sold then it would make sense but he doesn't answer the questions Arteta needs to solve.

I think, with the greatest of respect to him, Diogo Jota is probably a player Arsenal should be looking to avoid right now.
Since the start of the 2022/23 season he's missed 60 games for club and country due to injury, according to transfermarkt, most of which have been muscular problems. In that time, he's not had more than 22 appearances in a single Premier League season. At the age of 28, that's a situation which is not likely to improve significantly.
While Arsenal's strength in depth has not been the greatest this season in attacking areas, if they want to push on and regularly bring home trophies like the Premier League or Champions League, they need to be improving on players in the current XI and pushing the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard into squad roles. Would Jota be the man to do that? Maybe, maybe not. It's certainly not a huge upgrade.
The Gunners are in a decent state financially, but they're not in a place where they can afford to be frivolous. The money would be better spent elsewhere.

Diogo Jota has not been discussed in dispatches with Arsenal, but he's a player that would fit perfectly at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal are in need of a striker who can also play across the front line. Jota is just that. And he's a fine goalscorer too.
Moving to a rival would not be an easy deal to get done, but if there's any chance of it happening, Arsenal should be all over it. With two years left on his contract at the end of this season, he would not come cheap, it could be the time Liverpool look to get a deal done to maximise the money they could get for him.
If it's a choice between him, Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres, though, I know who I'd choose.
