Robbie Fowler believes Liverpool have not missed Jurgen Klopp because of how well Arne Slot has done since succeeding the Reds' former manager. Those comments came before they lost their FA Cup fourth-round tie against Plymouth Argyle in a shock result.

Despite that surprise defeat, Liverpool still top the Premier League table and finished first in the Champions League phase. They can also still retain the final trophy Klopp won in charge of the Reds when they play Newcastle United in next month's League Cup final.

Fowler has now highlighted the differences between Klopp and Slot. "The biggest compliment you can give Arne Slot is, we've not missed Jurgen Klopp," the pundit said on ITV. "And that is an unbelievable testament to his technique, style and mannerisms as a manager, because he's so comfortable, he's so confident, the players look like they love playing for him already.

"He's a little bit different in terms of his character with Jurgen; Jurgen was very intense. With Arne Slot, he talks, and you really listen, and you can see that the players do enjoy that."

Asked about the difference between having an intense boss and a more relaxed one, Fowler recalled: "You can be quite fearful as a player if a manager's really that intense all the time. You're really on tenterhooks, and you struggle to make the right pass.

"So you are prone to make mistakes when a manager is like that. But with Arne Slot, I think he gives the players a little more freedom and confidence to go out there and be who they want to be."

However, Fowler also acknowledged: "This time last year, me as a Liverpool fan, we were all devastated; we were losing a manager who's brought Liverpool back to the top table. Talk about all the top European clubs. Liverpool are there again, and it's all thanks to Jurgen."
