Arsenal's Premier League title rivals, Liverpool, have been dealt a worrying injury blow in their FA Cup fourth-round tie with Championship side Plymouth Argyle.

The Reds travelled to Holmes Park looking to progress to the next round of the cup as part of their quest to win the quadruple this season under Arne Slot. Liverpool are currently top of the Premier League, one of the favourites to win the Champions League and in the final of the Carabao Cup.

Slot made 10 changes from the side that thumped Tottenham on Thursday night, with youngsters James McConnell and Trey Nyoni starting alongside the likes of Jarell Quansah and Federico Chiesa.

In defence, Joe Gomez returned for his first appearance since limping off in the league win over West Ham in late December. The 27-year-old started alongside Quansah at centre-back, but his return was short-lived.

He was forced off within just 11 minutes after requiring treatment on the pitch and replaced by Isaac Mabaya. Gomez has struggled with a number of muscle injuries recently, with a hamstring problem forcing him to miss January.

Gomez's injury comes ahead of Wednesday night's Merseyside derby with Everton. Arsenal will be hoping that David Moyes' men can continue their impressive Premier League form and keep the gap at the top of the table to just six points.

The Gunners currently trail the Reds with 14 games left to play. Mikel Arteta's men haven't been in action this weekend after being dumped out of the FA Cup but will resume their title charge at struggling Leicester City.
