Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that forward Cody Gakpo is a doubt to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend - and he's in a race against time to be available to travel south to Birmingham and face Aston Villa on Wednesday night.

Dutch international Gakpo has been in excellent form for the Reds, who have set a commanding pace at the top of the Premier League, this season; the 25-year-old forward has complemented the contributions of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and co with 21 goal contributions in all competitions.

That includes eight strikes in the top flight, with all of those coming since the beginning of November after a comparably slow start to the campaign in front of goal. Gakpo, though, hasn't trained at the club's Melwood training ground on Friday and, when the subject of his whereabouts was raised with manager Slot, he confirmed there was an issue.

"Cody is a bit of a doubt as well, so let's wait [to see] how he is today. I had to take him off because of an injury, because he got a knock, so let's see how he is today," Slot replied, when asked of the situation regarding Gakpo.

Liverpool are set to be without midfielder Curtis Jones against Wolves at Anfield this weekend, after he was sent off in Wednesday night's fractuous Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, where the Reds were denied late on by rivals Everton. The only other injuries the club are having to cope with otherwise involve Joe Gomez (hamstring) and Tyler Morton (shoulder).
