Liverpool supporters have been sharing their views on their side’s Carabao Cup first-leg semi-final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. Lucas Bergvall struck an 86th-minute winner to earn his side a 1-0 victory.

However, the game was not without controversy. Bergvall was lucky to avoid a second yellow card for a late tackle on Kostas Tsimikas moments before he fired the game’s winning goal.

Liverpool put six past Spurs in the Premier League last month but were nowhere near their best at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. And below is a look at how some Reds supporters, commenting on the Liverpool ECHO website, reacted to the defeat.

CanuckfromBootle commented: "Trent deserves credit for his performance in a game where we didn't really get going until 65 minutes in. We were drawn into a chaotic start and it took us a while to recover. If we play like that against Forest, they'll thrash us. If we were interested in Zubimendi in the summer and 'he's now changed his mind', we should be pursuing him again - or someone like Tchouameni: our midfield is desperately lacking in savvy and physicality, which would allow Grav and Mac to shine. A left-back can wait until the summer, but gaining - and maintaining control of the midfield is something we're struggling with. We're in for a tough fight at Forest and I don't see anyone in our squad who can stand their ground and win for us.

"I hope Arne's contract situation isn't influencing his decisions because sometimes it's clear that things just aren't working out for Mo and we need to mix things up. Let's give the youngsters a chance on Saturday and prepare for the big match on Tuesday because we're under strain. P.S. I'm not expecting the owners to make any real effort to win the title. Peter Robinson, where are you?"

Gammons wrote: "Worst LFC display since Sunday."

Sifellows1968 commented: "We looked really leggy and tired. Quansah needs a reset, should have started with Endo. We need to be spending more on a new Central defender, left back sometime soon. Jota really struggled, yet Nunez made a strong impact. Jones was really struggling to get into the game. We need more midfielders of higher quality, cannot play Mac and Ryan in every game they looked cooked. And sort out the contracts FSG is going on too long."

Lovemedo believed: "I think Klopp’s ways of dealing with Cups are better. He started with weaker team and then brought the big guns when we were chasing the game. That way he gave extra motivation to the regular bench players. The game today would have been perfect to start with Chiesa, Endo, and Elliott. Also, Kelleher should have played as well."

While Aldonumber8 felt: "I'd have given the 8 to Endo he was brilliant tonight slotting at CB, one of his best performances. Welcome return to some sort of form from Trent too. We are stuttering dreadfully in attack but this has happened a few times in recent seasons. If this is our wobble then it's not too damaging just yet. Got to get a good result at Forest though."

And RedLes said: "On paper, we should progress through the second leg at home under the floodlights, provided everyone is fit and available. We face Accrington at the weekend, and while no disrespect is intended towards them, our key players should be rested. Kelleher, Bradley, Konate, Quansah, Timi, Endo, Elliott, Slob, Jota, Chiesa and Nunez should start that game to gain match experience and build strength following injuries. We need a strong bench in case of any issues and to rest as many players as possible for the Forest match."
