Liverpool team vs Brentford predicted as Darwin Nunez decision made amid double change
Liverpool is still looking for its first league win of 2025 as it makes the journey to Brentford later today.
Arne Slot’s side hasn’t had the ideal start to the New Year, having dropped points against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest, while Arsenal has cut down the Reds’ lead at the top of the Premier League to four points as the pressure gets turned up during the second half of the season.
Liverpool could do with rediscovering some of the form it showed before the end of 2024, although it might not be helped by the absence of a couple of big names in attack.

Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz are both doubts for today’s game, having missed training following the draw with Forest. The latter looks more likely to be involved, having just been suffering from a sore throat this week, but the door might now be open for Darwin Nunez to lead the line.
The Uruguayan is back available after missing Tuesday’s game through suspension, and he will have a point to prove as speculation continues over his future, having been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.
If he does get the nod today, he should be flanked by Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah as per usual. The latter is in the rare position of having gone without a goal or assist in his last two games, and will be looking to put that right later.
Alisson Becker should retain his spot in goal, while Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate will continue at the heart of defense, barring any late knocks. Trent Alexander-Arnold is likely to retain his spot at right-back, but Andy Robertson could drop out of the side, with Kostas Tsimikas earning a start after supplying the all-important assist for Jota on Tuesday.
It’s as you were in midfield, with the usual duo of Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister taking their usual spots, while Dominik Szoboszlai continues in the No.10 role. Slot will hope he can find the winning formula again as Liverpool looks to restore its seven-point lead at the top of the table, even if it’s just for a couple of hours.
Predicted Liverpool line-up vs Brentford: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Nunez.
