Liverpool has a place in the Champions League last-16 well within its sights as it takes on Lille at Anfield this evening.

Arne Slot’s team is already all but assured of a spot in the next stage, with six wins out of six having practically assured they will avoid the extra play-off round. A point against their French opponents this evening though will make absolutely sure of a top-eight finish in the league phase.

The Liverpool boss may therefore be tempted to make some changes to his side, although for the time being, you would expect him to stick with a strong side, with next week’s clash against PSV Eindhoven potentially offering a chance to rest some of his big names.

There is one change from Saturday’s win over Brentford that many fans will be anticipating. Darwin Nunez’s heroics in that victory will put him in the frame to start, and it will likely be Luis Diaz that makes way if the Uruguayan does get the nod.

That seems a safe bet - if nothing else, it is perhaps time for Diaz to have a rest, having started the last two games up front against Nottingham Forest and Brentford with not much luck, so Nunez should get the chance to stake his claim for the No.9 role again.

He will be flanked by Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah. Federico Chiesa, meanwhile, will be hoping he can get another chance from the bench, having made a positive impact at the weekend.

Elsewhere, there could be another change in defense. It’s a toss-up which one of Andy Robertson or Kostas Tsimikas will start at left-back, but since the latter started at the weekend and didn’t quite impress against Bryan Mbeumo, we’ll go with Robertson to reclaim his spot.

It’s as you were with the rest of the side. Ibrahima Konate is a suspension risk, although given there will probably be nothing riding on next week’s game against PSV, a yellow card for the Frenchman tonight certainly wouldn’t be the worst outcome.

There is the possibility of a change in midfield, with Curtis Jones of course battling it out with Dominik Szoboszlai as usual for the No.10 role, while Harvey Elliott might feel he’s deserving of a start after his impressive cameo from the bench on Saturday. We’re sticking with Szoboszlai for now though.

Liverpool predicted line-up vs Lille: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Nunez.
