Liverpool manager Arne Slot is in a rare position heading into Tuesday’s Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest.

The Reds’ success this season has meant a jam-packed fixture schedule, but two cup matches last week afforded Slot the chance to rest and rotate his squad at the midway point of the campaign.

Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Andy Robertson, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo all missed Saturday’s FA Cup win over Accrington Stanley and that is likely to form the basis of Liverpool’s starting XI in the top-of-the-table clash.

With just Joe Gomez and Darwin Nunez absent for the Reds, Slot also has plenty of options available to him. But selecting Alisson in nets looks like a straightforward decision, even with Caoimhin Kelleher keeping a clean sheet against Accrington.

In defence, Alexander-Arnold is likely to be the only member of the back four from Saturday’s game to retain his place, with Jarrell Quansah, Wataru Endo and Kostas Tsimikas dropping out in place of Van Dijk, Konate and Robertson. The latter was given a two-match rest last week and hasn’t played since the Manchester United draw.

As for midfield, the axis of Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister is expected to return - the pair have started ahead of the back four in 16 of the Reds’ 19 league matches this season. The toss up will be whether to select Dominik Szoboszlai or Curtis Jones in the more offensive role.

Given the latter struggled in recent games against Tottenham Hotspur and United, Szoboszlai seems more likely to start. The Hungarian’s half-time withdrawal on Saturday might be another indication of Slot’s plans.

Up front, Salah and Gakpo have been in sensational form and look like guarantees to start. What’s less certain is who plays through the middle. Diaz has tended to operate as the no.9 in recent months, but with Diogo Jota back and now ready to play 90 minutes again, it poses an interesting dilemma.

Given Diaz didn’t start either of the last two matches and should be fresher than Jota who was selected in both, the Colombian is expected to join Salah and Gakpo in a exciting front three.

Liverpool predicted line-up vs Nottingham Forest: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Salah, Diaz, Gakpo.
