Liverpool has been told there is an "obvious" pick to replace Mohamed Salah should the Egyptian fail to agree terms with the Reds amid ongoing talks regarding a new deal.

Salah, like Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, is only under contract until the end of the season. And while he appears to want to stay put at Liverpool, nothing has been agreed yet that will see him extend his terms.

"If Liverpool wanted one player to replace Salah, the obvious choice for me would be Rodrygo from Real Madrid," former Reds midfielder Danny Murphy told OLBG. "I think he's a wonderful talent.

"I don't know what his contract situation is at Real Madrid, but I think of him because we’ve been seeing him play at the highest level and winning Champions Leagues in the last couple of years.

"His numbers aren't like Salah's but he's a match winner. He can beat people, he's quick and he's playing in an environment where he's playing under huge pressure every week and dealing with it.

"Additionally they've got so many talented players at Real Madrid that maybe there is room for one of them to leave. So that would be the obvious standout for me."

While Real Madrid has the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr among its attacker roster, Rodrygo has still managed to play a lot of minutes this season. The Brazilian has played 26 times in total, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists, and has always maintained that he is happy with Los Blancos, for whom he has played 159 times since arriving as an 18-year-old from Santos in 2019.

Liverpool.com says: If it comes to it, signing a Salah replacement will be almost impossible. Rodrygo is great but he wouldn't be cheap nor easy to convince on the move, even if Real Madrid was open to it. That is ultimately why it is so important that Liverpool finds a way to come to an agreement with its existing number 11.
