The Liverpool squad endured a travel nightmare hours after losing to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.

Spurs claimed a 1-0 win over the Merseyside club in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Lucas Bergvall scored the only goal of the contest in north London to hand Tottenham a one-goal advantage heading into the second leg at Anfield next month. The visitors were furious after the winning goal by Bergvall, with many believing the Spurs star should have received a second yellow card moments earlier.

Ange Postecoglou's side will now prepare to take on Tamworth in the third round of the FA Cup this weekend, before returning to Premier League action next week against Arsenal in the North London Derby.

While Postecoglou and Co. had a relatively short journey home on Wednesday night, that was not the case for their opponents. Liverpool still had to travel back to Merseyside and now a report has emerged claiming that the Reds endured a travel nightmare.

The Liverpool Echo reports that the plane taking the Liverpool squad from London to Merseyside was forced to land 80 miles away from their destination due to the wintery weather conditions in the North West.

Instead of landing at John Lennon Airport, the Reds touched down in Birmingham as the Liverpool hierarchy were forced to put contingency plans in place to get the squad and staff back home on Merseyside. The report claims that many of the Reds playing squad did not return home until the early hours of Thursday morning, with training scheduled for today (Thursday) being cancelled due to the disruption.

Despite the chaos caused by the travel disruption, the report states that Liverpool staff have been praised for smoothly ensuring the Reds playing squad were able to return home safely. Just like Spurs, Liverpool are also in FA Cup action this weekend as they host League Two club Accrington Stanley.
